Hands carefully decorating a dark gothic cake

Our story

Born from a love of darkness and butter

Grave & Sugar is a home bakery where gothic imagination meets obsessive craft. Every order is baked by hand, decorated with care, and designed to unsettle — in the best possible way.

How it started

It is believed that every old town contains at least one house which people steer clear of. The house at the end of Blackthorn's Lane had remained there for almost one hundred years. The gardens surrounding it were overgrown with herbs, lavender, rosemary, and straight rows of garlic which always seemed to stay fresh. The neighbours stated that odd things took place there after dark—warm candlelight shone through the windows, the smell of fresh bread filled the night air, and by morning beautiful pastries were found on the front porch with no indication of who had baked them. Most people dismissed the tales as mere fables.

Until one autumn, when the doors opened silently. Inside lay Grave & Sugar—a Victorian bakery in which each recipe had a story, each dessert bore the name of an old legend, and each box was handled as if it were a fragment of forgotten evidence. The baker never dismissed the tales; instead, he merely smiled and remarked, "The best recipes are the ones that survive the longest." Nowadays, Grave & Sugar is famous for its mysteriously beautiful desserts, which are inspired by classic horror, gothic architecture, haunted folklore, and a sense of Halloween nostalgia.

Each cookie, brownie, and cake is made by hand using high-quality ingredients and a bit of theatrical flair. Because in this area... every sweet has a story and every story leaves a trace. All items are made to order and none of them are kept on shelves; if an item bears our name on it then it must have been baked that week.

What we stand for

Made by hand

No shortcuts. Every cookie is cut, every cake is layered, every detail is piped by a single pair of hands.

Horror-first design

The aesthetic isn't an afterthought. We design the look before we bake the thing — dark, detailed, and a little unsettling.

Real ingredients

Butter, not margarine. Real vanilla. Chocolate that actually tastes like chocolate. The horror is in the decoration, not the recipe.

Custom or nothing

If you want something specific — a character, a scene, a particular shade of dread — we'd rather make it right than make it fast.
